Islamic Geometry Class (Age 8 yo +)
DESCRIPTION: Islamic Geometry is a 4-wk course designed for children ages 8 years and older, and adults. It is a cultural immersion class which aims to help students connect with, and understand how geometric patterns are made in Islamic art. The course begins by identifying and analyzing Islamic geometric patterns displayed on surfaces of mosques, ceramic tiles, and other architectural elements. In each class then, we will take our exploration further, using different mediums and materials to recreate patterns and geometric stars. Students will be using a ruler and compass to initially create these geometries, focusing on shapes, colors, and patterns, both in 2 and 3-dimensions. Some classes will focus on process and development, while others will have students completing a finished product by the end of class.
All materials are supplied. Each student will receive their own 10-piece compass and ruler kit to keep. Students must come dressed in old clothes or have an art smock / apron.
